ACHY BLOOD

Thank God, thank God,
I thank God for the pain.
My skin’s peeling and sore
I thank God for my brain,
frozen to its core,
and rattled in its cage.
Enraged; I wash
and pray
meditate
I read and write
and right some wrongs
with songs of truth -
I thank God for the blues,
guidance and rules,
music equipment,
all creative tools,
mercy and grace,
chocolate and lace,
sex, love, and marriage,
oat milk with porridge,
peanut butter,
human courage,
untamed hearts,
our parts…
in this play.
Thank God, thank God,
I thank God, night and day.
